Lava Cantina, the rock and roll-themed Mexican restaurant in Perkins Rowe, is set to open an expanded patio in mid-to-late October.

The restaurant will spend $150,000 on the new patio, which will boost seating from about 50 to 85 people. Along with the additional seats, the patio will be fully covered and have a wrap-around bar that faces the plaza in Perkins Rowe. Restaurant officials noted that the expansion will cost about half as much as it did to open the restaurant in April 2013.

By expanding the patio, restaurant officials hope to bring in more private events and corporate parties.

Lava Cantina recently launched a new menu and brought in Martin Ybarra, formally the general manager of Texas de Brazil steakhouse, as an operating partner.
