Louisiana ranked No. 6 in Area Development’s 2014 survey of the Top States for Doing Business.

The site-selection and facility-planning publication asked location consultants to rank the states on 18 categories, including:

  • Business environment, which included cost of doing business, incentive programs and corporate taxes
  • Labor climate, which includes availability of skilled labor, union or non-union labor, labor costs and workforce development
  • Infrastructure/global access, which includes distribution/supply chain hubs; rail and highway access; and certified sites/shovel-ready programs.

Georgia ranked No. 1, followed by Texas, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. Louisiana also ranked No. 6 in last year’s survey. In the 2014 survey, Louisiana tied with Alabama for the No. 4 spot in overall business environment. Louisiana also ranked in the top four in several important sub-categories, including No. 1 in incentives programs, the magazine said.
