Big Lots is cutting the ribbon Aug. 10 for the opening of its store at 9606 Cortana Place in the outparcel formerly home to Babies R Us, the company said in an announcement.
Customers are being told that the nearby location at 12444 Florida Blvd. will close to make way for the Cortana Place store. Baton Rouge’s other Big Lots store is on Siegen Lane.
A permit application was filed with the city-parish Department of Public Works earlier this year for a $250,000 renovation for the 41,357-square-foot Cortana store.
Big Lots is the nation’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise with annual revenue of about $5 billion, its website says. It offers closeouts and bargains on an assortment of brand-name merchandise, including seasonal products, furniture, housewares, toys and gifts.
Big Lots, founded in 1967 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, operates 1,451 retail stores in 48 states. Products from 3,000 manufacturers are supplied to stores through five regional distribution centers with more than 9 million square feet of distribution capacity.
