CF Industries Holdings Inc. said Tuesday its new urea ammonium nitrate plant at the company’s Donaldsonville complex, started up in early March, has already produced more than 80,000 tons of fertilizer.

“The finish line for our Donaldsonville capacity expansion project is now in sight,” said CF Industries President and CEO Tony Will.

The complex’s new ammonia plant is within a few weeks of being complete, he added.

The UAN and ammonia plants’ cost was estimated at $2.1 billion. The Donaldsonville UAN plant is the second new facility commissioned as part of CF’s major expansion projects in North America.

Total annual UAN capacity at Donaldsonville is now 4.2 million tons, up from 2.4 million tons.
