First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending May 3 increased to 2,273 from the previous week’s total of 2,238.
There were 2,466 initial claims during the comparable week in 2013, the Louisiana workforce Commission reported.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,231 from the previous week’s average of 2,188.
Continued unemployment weeks claimed for the week ending May 3 increased to 18,926 compared to 18,921 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 18,994 from the previous week’s average of 19,095.
