Scott Berg, of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry in Baton Rouge, has been elected to a two-year term as president of the American Gem Society’s board of directors.
“Scott is sure to be a dynamic and effective president,” said Ruth Batson, chief executive officer of the nonprofit trade association and AGS Laboratories. “He has been a wonderful asset to the AGS team and is a highly respected leader in the jewelry industry.”
Founded in 1978, Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry is one of the largest independent fine jewelers in the nation, operating eight stores in three states. Berg is Baton Rouge market president.
The association is dedicated to ethics, knowledge and consumer protection within the jewelry industry and Berg also is involved with the jewelers vigilance committee as first vice president.
“In the ever-increasing, fast-paced modern world, ethics, transparency and consumer protection are all the more important,” Berg said. “We must be vigilant as a collective industry in adhering to the strictest code of ethics to ensure consumer confidence in our product and our people.”
Berg graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor of science in management and from LSU with a master’s in business administration. He also graduated from The Gemological Institute of America as a graduate gemologist.
Berg is on the Junior League of Baton Rouge advisory board, a past board chair for The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.
