Slinky’s, a longtime Chimes Street bar, will close next month when the lease on the building expires.

Pam Sandoz, who owns Slinky’s, said the building at 144 West Chimes St. is up for sale with an asking price of $475,000. After two years of negotiations, she said, “we cannot come to any sort of an agreement on the price or the length of the lease going forward, so we have to close at the end of February.”

Plans are to have a “last call” party at Slinky’s on Jan. 20, then have a party on Feb. 17 to mark the 19th anniversary of Sandoz taking over as owner of the bar. “We’ll have a soft closing after that,” she said.

Sandoz said she’s looking to open a bar in another location. “I’m 45. That’s too young to retire and I can’t afford it,” she said. “I need a job.”
