Gonzales-based North American Auto Group has purchased the Import One used-car dealership at 9977 Airline Highway for $1.1 million.

North American Auto Group purchased the 1.2-acre site from Hamid Ghassemi in a deal that was filed Wednesday with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s Office. Ghassemi has been charged with first-degree murder, along with three other men, in the alleged murder-for-hire of his former wife, Taherah Ghassemi. He has pled not guilty to the charges and is being held in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Mike Pierce, who co-owns North American Auto Group, said this is the fourth lot for his company. North American Auto group has locations at 13557 Airline Highway in Gonzales, 2216 S. Burnside in Gonzales and at Florida and Lobdell in Baton Rouge. The new location has room for about 130 cars. The Airline Highway location will sell late-model luxury imports.

“We’ve always dealt with cars that sell for an average of $14,000 to $15,000, and we’re selling about 100 to 150 cars a month,” Pierce said. “But we always wanted to get imported higher-end vehicles, like Lexus and Mercedes. We’re only selling about 20 to 25 of those a month.”

When Pierce and co-owner Joe Johnson heard that Import One was getting out of the used-car business, he contacted the attorneys for the business and worked out a deal to buy the Airline Highway property.

“We’re pretty excited about this,” Pierce said. “This location is a good fit for us.”
