Crown Crafts Inc., a Gonzales-based baby products company, reported its fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose slightly to $2.2 million, or 22 cents per share.
The company’s fourth quarter ended April 3. For the same period a year ago, Crown reported net income of $2.1 million, or 21 cents per share.
For the year, Crown reported a profit of $6.8 million, or 68 cents per share, compared with $5.7 million, or 57 cents per share, for the 2015 fiscal year. The company increased its profit despite sales falling $1 million to $25.1 million.
A change in the way Crown calculated the state portion of its income tax benefited the company by $260,000, or 3 cents per share. The 2015 results were affected by $380,000 in legal fees and an after-tax charge of $530,000 associated with settling a patent infringement lawsuit.
