Newk’s Eatery is set to open its second Baton Rouge restaurant Monday in the old Mr. Gatti’s building by the LSU campus.
The restaurant at 3332 Lake St. will have indoor and patio dining for 220 people.
Newk’s specializes in hand-tossed salads, oven-baked sandwiches, California-style pizzas and made-from-scratch soups.
Mississippi-based Newk’s opened its first Baton Rouge restaurant in March by Towne Center. Officials with Newk’s are also eyeing a third Baton Rouge location, possibly in Perkins Rowe.
Plans are to open five Newk’s locations in Louisiana during 2015, joining previously existing restaurants in Shreveport, Bossier City and Monroe. The chain was started in 2004 by founders of the McAlister’s Deli chain.
