Brew-Bacher’s Grillis closing its Nicholson Drive location at the end of May and is eyeing other sites near LSU for the popular casual-dining restaurant.
The restaurant at 5251 Nicholson Drive will shut down on May 31, said Brandon Mayeaux, an assistant manager.
The pending expansion of Nicholson Driveis the main reason for closing the restaurant, Mayeaux said. The intersection of Nicholson and West Lee/Brightside will be improved with a left turn lane, and the street will be raised to make the railroad crossing better. Work on the intersection is scheduled to begin in early 2016.
“How long construction will last is going to affect our bottom line,” Mayeaux said, noting that the expansion of Staring Lane took five years. Brew-Bacher’s forecast business would drop by 15 to 20 percent at the Nicholson location because of roadwork.
Brew-Bacher’s has had a location at Nicholson for more than 30 years. There are four more restaurants in Baton Rouge and Gonzales.
The restaurant has more than 15 employees, some of whom are students and going home for the summer. The remaining employees will be offered jobs at other Brew-Bacher’s locations, Mayeaux said.
The chain is eyeing other locations for an LSU-area restaurant, including spots around the North Gates. “That’s an area that’s good for business, and there are apartments going in there as well,” Mayeaux said.
