A federal court in Los Angeles has dismissed Quest Nutrition LLC’s patent case against LSU over the development of a potential new sweetener.

California-based Quest, which makes nutrition bars, said it went to LSU to consult on the sweeter. But LSU broke the confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement, according to Bloomberg.com. LSU has filed for a patent on the sweetener, but Quest asked the court to name the company the owner of the patent application.

LSU argued that the dispute belonged in state court, and the federal court agreed.
