Our Lady of the Lake Livingston, a first free-standing emergency room, will open at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The ER will be open to the public 24 hours a day and staffed by physicians and nurses. No appointments are needed, and if a patient has to be admitted to the hospital, an ambulance is available.
“A freestanding emergency room adds a valuable resource to our family of services in Livingston Parish,” Lake Chief Executive Officer Scott Wester said in a news release.
“This innovative model extends the presence of a major medical center in Baton Rouge by adding nearby access to emergency care, diagnosis and treatment provided by the same emergency doctors and nurses who are an extended part of the OLOL team,” he said.
In addition to emergency services, Our Lady of the Lake Livingston’s campus, at 5000 O’Donovan Blvd. off the Walker exit on Interstate 12, also includes outpatient services such as a lab; imaging services such as CT, ultrasound, X-ray and MRI; and physician offices.
According to the American Hospital Association, freestanding emergency rooms are located in only 16 other states.
