Eatel is offering 1-gigabit Internet service – speeds 10 times faster than the standard service – to residents in Ascension and Livingston parishes.
A gigabit is 1,000 megabits per second. Eatel said the broadband service will allow users to download a 3-megabit song in less than a second and high-definition movies in minutes.
In the United States, the average consumer download speed is 37.1 megabits per second. In Japan, it’s 103 Mbps, while Singapore’s average is 133.5 Mbps.
In October, Cox Communications announced its High Speed Internet Premier service was doubling its speed to 100 megabits per second, at no additional cost.
Eatel’s new service will be $119.95 per month.
