First-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in Louisiana for the week ending July 21 fell to 3,080 from the previous week’s 3,675.
The state labor department said the figure also was lower than for the comparable week a year earlier, 4,123 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 3,543 from the previous week’s total of 3,681.
Continued unemployment claims for the week ending July 21 totaled 36,688, an increase from 36,268 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 35,954 from 35,550.
