Work continued Tuesday at the former United Artists Citiplace Theater, in its transformation into a ‘Movie Tavern,’ where movie-goers will be able order food and alcoholic beverages from their oversized theater seats.

Originally scheduled to open in May, it now has a planned Aug. 16 opening date, with hiring starting July 13, according to Movie Tavern Baton Rouge’s Facebook page.

The estimated $6 million renovation involves reducing the number of screens in the theater, and converting one of the viewing rooms into a kitchen. The complex and surrounding 6.8-acre site was sold last year to National Retail Properties, of Orlando, Florida, for $8.2 million, and Movie Tavern has a deal to lease the building.
