Construction has started on Bayonne at Southshore, a $42 million luxury apartment complex on Stanford Avenue.
The 240-unit complex is being built at 900 Stanford Ave. on the site of the old One Lakeshore Place Apartments.
“This will be one of Baton Rouge’s finest residential rental communities, if not the finest,” said Mike Wampold, who is developing Bayonne. Wampold also developed the Crescent at University Lakes, a condominium community next to Bayonne.
Bayonne will have a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 750 square feet to 1,400 square feet. Units will have a monthly rent between $1.50 to $1.60 per square foot.
The development will feature such amenities as garage parking, a resort-style pool, a clubhouse, a fitness center and scenic views of the LSU Lakes.
Wampold said potential tenants for Bayonne include LSU faculty members, young professionals who work downtown or at the Water Campus and interns at local hospitals.
Golden Construction of Birmingham, Alabama, is the contractor. Coleman Partners of Baton Rouge is the architect. Whitney Bank is the lender.
