Eatel Corp. had a server go down Thursday afternoon, causing all of the Gonzales-based telecommunications company’s Internet and LightWave TV service customers to lose service at about 3 p.m.

Ashley Phillips, Eatel’s chief operating officer, said service was in the final stages of being restored when contacted by The Advocate at about 7:30 p.m.

Phillips said the company does not yet know why back-up servers did not prevent Eatel customers from losing service.

Communications Manager Trae Russell said any customers who are still having problems getting on the Internet may need to reboot their Internet routers to restore service.

Phillips said Eatel was still contacting the customers who had called and was using social media — still accessible to people through smartphones — to spread the word that service was being restored.

Eatel would not disclose how many customers it has.
