The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino Lake Charles has officially opened.

The $700 million, 1.3 million-square-foot property on 290 acres marks the fifth Golden Nugget. It rounds out the state’s complement of 15 riverboat casino and is the third casino in Lake Charles, competing with L’Auberge and the Isle of Capri.

The 25-story hotel and casino features 740 luxury hotel rooms and suites; an 18-hole championship golf course; spa; retail options; an 18,000-square-foot ballroom; 30,000 square feet of meeting space; a pool; private beach front and marina; and a number of Landry’s signature restaurants.

The casino floor features 70 table games, a poker room and 1,600 slot machines.

“Golden Nugget Lake Charles is like no other gaming resort, offering a first-class, Las Vegas-style atmosphere right here in the South,” said Tilman J. Fertitta, chairman, CEO and sole shareholder of Fertitta Entertainment Inc. in Houston, which operates hotels, resorts and casinos.

Other Golden Nugget properties are in La Vegas; Laughlin, Nevada; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Biloxi, Mississippi.

Lake Charles draws many of its gamblers from Texas, with such markets as Houston, San Antonio and Austin generating almost 65 percent of the gambling revenue.
