Baton Rouge-based home nursing company Amedisys Inc. expects a third-quarter profit of 40 to 42 cents per share on revenue of about $380 million.

A year ago, Amedisys reported net income of 34 cents per share on revenue of $362 million.

Amedisy said its third-quarter 2017 results will be affected by pretax charges amounting to about 13 cents per share.

Those charges include a reduction in revenue associated with alleged Medicare overpayments in Florida — a Medicare contractor claims Amedisys was overpaid $38.8 million — and costs associated with the company's home health closures and restructuring plan. Other less significant items also affected Amedisys' third-quarter results.

Stock analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research have forecast earnings of 53 cents per share.

Amedisys plans to issue its earnings release for the quarter after the market closes on Nov. 7.
