Potential designs for the redevelopment of the old Entergy site on Government Street will be unveiled at 6:30 p.m. March 2 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church fellowship hall, 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive.

Andres Duany, the urban planner who has led a team mapping the redevelopment of the 6-acre site at 1509 Government St., will present his potential designs for the property and the area surrounding it, said Gwen Hamilton, interim director of the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority.

Duany released initial plans for the property in December. He had two concepts: one that would restore the city grid that was disrupted when Entergy set up the facility and the other is a checkerboard pattern of buildings and gravel parking lots and trees in between.

Both plans call for inclusion of a rail station. The land is near the Kansas City Southern rail line, and there has talk about pursuing Baton Rouge to New Orleans passenger rail service.
