Zaxby’s, the Georgia-based chicken chain, plans to build a nearly 3,850-square-foot restaurant on an outparcel in front of the Costco store on Airline Highway near Interstate 12.

According to a building permit application filed with the city-parish on Friday, the restaurant will be at 10011 Dawnadele Ave. It will feature a drive-through window.

Jonathan Fawer, with Corporate Realty in New Orleans, who has the listings for two Costco outparcels, said the property is under contract. He would not disclose the buyer.

Zaxby’s has aggressively moved into the Baton Rouge market, the home turf of Raising Canes. The chains have similar menus, with a signature meal consisting of chicken fingers, fries, coleslaw, Texas toast and a tangy sauce. But Zaxby’s offers a variety of other dishes, including chicken wings, Buffalo chicken tenders and salads topped with grilled, fried or Buffalo chicken.

Since the fall of 2015, Zaxby’s has opened locations in Denham Springs, Gonzales and Zachary. A restaurant is under construction in the Long Farm traditional neighborhood development at Airline Highway and Antioch Road and a permit has been issued for a Zaxby’s in the Greens at Millerville development at the intersection of Millerville Road and Interstate 12.
