Bardwell Homes has purchased nearly 7.4 acres of land on Jones Creek Road, next to Woodlawn Middle School, for future development.

The company paid just over $1 million for the land, which was purchased in two separate transactions: one which closed on Nov. 22, the other which closed Tuesday.

Scott Bardwell said the land is zoned for multi-family residential use and has commercial frontage along Jones Creek. Under the current zoning, 119 units could be built on the property.

The first transaction for 4.1 acres of land included property along Shenandoah View Court. “The addition of the second parcel increased the development potential of the site for elderly or multifamily use and gives us frontage on Jones Creek that can be used for a new entry or sold as commercial” once the road is widened, Bardwell said. Jones Creek is set to be widened to five lanes between Tiger Bend Road and Coursey Boulevard, with bids for the work going out early this year.

Bardwell said he hopes to start construction on the development by the end of the year.

Last week, Bardwell Homes paid $1.08 million for 12.1 acres of land in the Village at Magnolia Square. The company plans to build 43 homes in the Central traditional neighborhood development.
