A 0.60-acre tract at Perkins Road and Lee Drive has been sold for $725,000 to an investor group that plans to build an urgent care clinic on the site.

The land, the last developable lots in the area, was purchased by Docbox LLC in a deal that closed Tuesday. The seller was Brusly Professional Office Park LLC.

Docbox plans to build a clinic on the site for the Point of Care Health Group, which operates Patients Plus Urgent Care Clinics around Baton Rouge. Patients Plus has a location at 2840 Florida Blvd. and is about to start building clinics at 4343 Sherwood Forest and 7353 Jefferson Highway. Those clinics should be open by early 2017.

The clinics treat common illnesses and injuries, along with offering X-rays, wellness exams and vaccines.

Dr. Rubin Patel, who serves as co-chief executive officer and chief medical officer for Point of Care and is a member of Docbox, said the Perkins property is special to him.

“I used to live in the house behind the lot when I was doing my residency, and the lot has been vacant ever since,” Patel said. “It’s almost come full circle being that now we will be expanding our practice there.”

Construction of the clinic should begin in the next three or four months and the facility should open in the first quarter of 2017.
