DIG, a weekly Baton Rouge newspaper with roots on LSU’s campus, is closing down its print product and relaunching in June as a glossy, bound, monthly magazine, according to publisher Wayne T. Lewis.

In a letter posted online and in the recent print edition, Lewis says major shifts in the print industry are behind the move. “Calling the Internet ‘disruptive’ might be an understatement,” he said.

Lewis said he hopes the magazine, featuring stories and photography highlighting the city and its most interesting people, will be something readers want to “take home and keep around.”

DIG began as Tiger Weekly in 1997 before “graduating” to a city-wide publication in 2011. DIG sponsors Baton Rouge’s annual Restaurant Week and maintains a website at digbr.com

The magazine will continue to be free, Lewis said.
