Work will begin soon on a nearly $2.4 million improvement at Cinemark Perkins Rowe, which will add luxury reclining seats to the 16-screen movie theater.

Donna Taylor, a spokeswoman for Stirling Properties, which manages the mixed-use center at Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard, said the renovations will be completed by mid-July.

Along with the premium seating in all of the auditoriums, the theater will add a party room and a break room, according to a building permit issued by the city-parish in late February. Restrooms will also be upgraded.

Cinemark has installed or is installing “luxury loungers” at 26 theaters, according to the theater chain’s website. The oversized, plush recliners are electric powered and feature footrests and cupholders. The Perkins Rowe location would be the first Cinemark theater in Louisiana to get the upgraded seating.
