Home sales in metro Baton Rouge increased by 0.8 percent in October, thanks to continuing strong sales in Livingston and Ascension parishes.
There were 667 home sales that closed in October in the nine-parish area, according to figures released Wednesday by the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors. That compares with 662 closed sales in October 2013.
The biggest monthly gainer was Livingston Parish, where sales were up 14.7 percent from 109 to 125.
Ascension Parish also had a double-digit gain, with sales going up 10.5 percent, from 114 to 126.
East Baton Rouge Parish, which accounts for the biggest share of the market, saw sales drop by 6.5 percent in October to 348 from 372.
The median home price rose 7.5 percent in October to $183,698 from $170,858, a sign of the continuing strength of the market.
The average number of days a home was on the market was down by a similar amount from 84 days in October 2013 to 77 days.
The number of homes for sale fell 12.8 percent to 3,955. The supply in months was 5.2, compared with 6.4 in 2013.
The number of new listings on the market was down 3.7 percent from 1,074 in 2013 to 1,034.
Through October, there were 7,552 home sales in the metro area, compared with 7,393 through October 2013, a 2.2 percent increase.
Sales were up 12.4 percent in Livingston for the first 10 months of the year, going from 1,246 to 1,401.
East Baton Rouge saw a 1.8 percent drop through the same period, coming in at 3,989 closed sales compared with 4,062 in 2013.
Ascension sales were down 0.3 percent, from 1,442 through the first 10 months of 2013 to 1,438 this year.
