The RV Shop has purchased 5.1 acres in the Greens at Millerville mixed-use development with plans to break ground on a new dealership there later this year.
Millerville Green LLC paid nearly $2 million for the land, according to documents filed Monday with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s office. The seller was Appropriate Real Estate LLC, which was set up by Greens at Millerville developer Windy Gladney.
Gladney plans on eventually building 320 apartments and 393,000 square feet of office space on the site at Millerville Road and Interstate 12 that had been home for the Fairwood Country Club and golf course.
Millerville Green was set up by Gerald Vince, who founded the RV Shop in 1976. The business sells recreational vehicles and parts for RVs and provides service.
Tyson Vince, who serves as general manager of the RV Shop, said the plan is to move the dealership from its current location at 14340 S. Choctaw Drive.
“This gives us an opportunity to have more visibility on the interstate,” Vince said. “It opens us up for people passing east to west. This is the best location for RVers.”
The RV Shop has been at the Choctaw location since 2003. The new site will be about an acre larger. The preliminary plans are to build 6,000 square feet of office space on the site and 20,000 square feet of climate-controlled service space.
Currently, the RV Shop has seven service bays. The new dealership will have about 14 bays. Vince said there are about 30 people working at the business; between five and 10 more workers will be hired. “This will take us to the next level,” he said.
Charlie Colvin, of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, represented Gladney, while Ric Simmons, of Bilwood Smith Real Estate, represented the buyers.
Colvin said this was the first sale to close in the Greens at Millerville. Richards Honda announced in January 2015 it has a deal to buy 9 acres in the development and eventually move its dealership there from 7791 Florida Blvd.
