First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Nov. 23, increased to 2,854 from the previous week’s 2,363.

Initial claims were above the comparable week a year earlier at 2,705, the state’s labor department said.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,558 from the previous week’s 2,438.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Nov. 23 increased to 22,839, compared to the previous week’s 22,404. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 22,536 from the previous week’s average of 22,503.
