The developers of Americana in Zachary have purchased a 36.5-acre tract across the highway from the traditional neighborhood development that they plan to put to use as commercial property.

EV-Americana North bought the land for $1.4 million in a deal that was filed Monday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office. The seller was George W. Robinson Jr. Real Estate LLC.

Todd Waguespack, one of the developers of Americana, said the land is located on La. 964. Waguespack said the land was purchased as an investment with plans for future development.

“We’ve got some leads on some things, but we’re not ready to commit yet,” he said. “There’s been some interest in commercial development, because of the location.”

Americana is a 413-acre development that eventually will include 818 single-family homes, 482,555 square feet of retail and office space and a movie theater.
