Paychex, which provides payroll, human relations and retirement services to 590,000 small and medium-sized business clients, is adding 100 jobs at its Baton Rouge office.

The company said Thursday it will add the jobs at its office at 4334 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. over the next five years. Currently, 60 people work at the office. Louisiana’s Economic Development department said the new jobs will have an average salary of $32,000 a year, plus benefits. LED estimates the expansion will create 97 indirect jobs.

Paychex has had an office in Baton Rouge since 1980. The company also has an office in New Orleans.

Last year, Paychex moved into a bigger location in anticipation of expanding its regional service center.

“Baton Rouge has proven to be a great location for us to support our clients and the continued growth of Paychex,” said John Gibson, senior vice president of services. “The access to a high-quality workforce and the support of the local and state governments makes this an ideal location for this expansion.”

The state offered an incentive package to Paychex that includes the services of LED’s FastStart job training program.

In addition, the company is expected to use Louisiana’s Quality Jobs Program.

Established in 1971, Paychex is headquartered in Rochester, New York, and operates more than 100 office locations across the U.S. The company has more than 13,000 employees, with 130 of those in Louisiana.
