First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Oct. 24 increased to 2,502 from the previous week’s total of 2,338.

For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,171, the state labor department said.

Construction showed the largest over-the-week increase of 45 claims, followed by real estate and rental and leasing with 35 claims.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,454 from the previous week’s total of 2,414.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Oct. 24 decreased to 22,768 compared to 22,824 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 22,912 from the previous week’s average of 23,059.
