Dempsey’s, a popular restaurant for poboys and gumbo, has closed its Jefferson Highway location.
George Gugich, one of the owners said the decision was made to shut down the location at 7327 Jefferson Highway after the lease on the property expired. “We had some parking issues and the building was old,” Gugich said. “It needed to be remodeled and updated.”
Dempsey’s recently opened a location at 17535 Airline Highway in Prairieville to join its restaurant on Coursey Boulevard.
“This new location doesn’t have quite the problems we had there,” Gugich said. “Once we finalized the deal over here, we decided not to renew the lease.”
Gugich is looking at possibly opening another Dempsey’s around the Jefferson Highway area.
“We’re always looking for new locations and new concepts too,” he said. “The formula we have here is very labor intensive and it’s difficult to find the right mix of personnel to make the restaurant happen.”
