LORANGER — A 57-year-old woman was killed Thursday when she couldn’t escape from a fire at her Loranger home, according to a release from the State Fire Marshal.

The Loranger Fire Department, located in Tangipahoa Parish, responded to reports of a fire at 52435 La. 40 about 1:15 p.m., the release says.

When firefighters arrived one minute later, the home was nearly engulfed by the flames, the release says.

Firefighters went into the home and found the body of Jane Vidal in the bathroom, the release says.

Vidal’s husband was sleeping when the fire broke out and managed to escape from the bedroom window, the release says.

He was not injured, the release says.

Vidal was airlifted to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, the release says.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although the Fire Marshal’s Office does not suspect arson, the release says.
