SPRINGFIELD — The mayor and police chief of the town of Springfield were arrested Tuesday and booked with malfeasance in office, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman confirmed.

Mayor Charles E. Martin and Police Chief Jimmy Jones also were booked with obstruction of justice, injuring public records and conspiracy, the spokesman said.

After they were booked at the Livingston Parish Jail, Martin and Jones were released on bond, the spokesman said.

The lead investigative agency in the case is the Office of the State Inspector General, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
