Authorities in Denham Springs arrested a man early Sunday accused of fatally shooting his 29-year-old roommate in Denham Springs on Saturday, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Lori Steele said Jason Wesley Holcombe, 24, 9951 Spur Road, Denham Springs, was arrested at 9 a.m. Sunday and booked into Livingston Parish Jail on one count of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Joshua Thomason, who resided at the same Denham Springs address as Holcombe.
Holcombe’s bond has been set at $500,000, Steele said.
Deputies responded to a call of shots fired shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday at 9951 Spur Road in Denham Springs and found Thomason shot once in the torso, Steele said.
Investigators do not have a motive in the shooting, Steele said.
Witnesses identified Holcombe as the shooter and said he was carrying a handgun, Steele said. Deputies located Holcombe at one point, but he bolted away on foot and eluded searchers throughout the night.
Detectives received a tip Sunday that led them to Linder Road in Denham Springs where Holcombe was captured without incident, Steele said.
Deputies had been searching for Holcombe, described as “armed and dangerous” by the Sheriff’s Office, near Dunn, Lockhart and Linder roads, which are northwest of the city.
Police dogs, air patrols and members of the Dixon Correctional Institute aided in the search, Steele said.
Holcombe previously pled guilty to entering and remaining after forbidden in East Baton Rouge Parish in 2010 and was sentenced to 60 days in Parish Prison.
