A Kentwood man died after a head-on collision east of town Sunday evening, State Police reported Monday.
Phillip A. Williams, 59, was driving a 1996 Dodge 3500 east on La. 38, when a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by 38-year-old Matthew Jacob Peek, of Kentwood, crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons, Trooper 1st Class Dustin Dwight said in a news release.
Williams drove onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a crash, Dwight said, but the two trucks collided head-on.
Williams was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center, where he later died, Dwight said.
Peek was taken to North Oaks Medical Center, where he was treated for moderate injuries, Dwight said.
Troopers took blood samples from both drivers to send to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
