LIVINGSTON — A Denham Springs woman was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading no contest to sexual battery.
Sarina Matherne, 36, had been visiting the victim’s mother in February 2013 when the incident occurred, Rachael Domiano Beard, spokeswoman for 21st Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux, said in a news release Thursday.
The child was left alone with Matherne and, following the attack, reported pain and bleeding to her mother, Beard said. The child, whose age was not released, was being treated at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital when she identified Matherne as the abuser.
Matherne must serve at least 25 years of the sentence without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence, Perrilloux said.
Judge Doug Hughes handed down the sentence Monday, Beard said. Assistant District Attorney Matthew Belser prosecuted the case.
