ALBANY — An Independence woman died in a single-vehicle crash northwest of Albany on Tuesday morning, State Police reported.
Peggy Perry, 49, was traveling west on La. 442, near La. 43, about 7:30 a.m. when her 2003 Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the highway, Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee said in a news release.
The truck overturned and came to rest off the side of the highway, Lee said.
Perry was wearing a seat belt but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene, Lee said.
Passenger Steven Barnett, 56, of Ponchatoula, also was wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
State Police do not suspect impairment was a factor, but a toxicology sample will be taken for analysis, Lee said.
