Two men have been arrested on counts of attempted murder after using the promise of drugs to lure a man to a spot where they beat and robbed him, according to Denham Springs police.
On June 29, Alfrederick Duane Odom, 19, met the victim at a gas station on Florida Avenue and offered to drive the man to a place where he could buy marijuana, Detective Glenn Lemoine said.
Odom drove the victim a short distance to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near East Street, and he turned the ignition off.
Armed with a pipe, Chondre Pipes, 22, approached the vehicle, pulled the victim out and began beating him. Afterward, Pipes and Odom took the man’s wallet and phone, Lemoine said. The accused didn’t know the victim, the detective continued. He said they were motivated by financial gain and the opportunity to build “street cred.”
The victim identified Odom in a photo lineup, and he was arrested in July. Odom gave up Pipes, who was tracked to a family member’s house in St. Landry Parish. According to Livingston Parish jail records, he was booked on Friday.
Both men face one count each of second degree robbery and attempted first-degree murder, according to online jail records.
