UPDATE 6 a.m. Wednesday: Authorities have identified the cyclist killed in the crash as Ashley Thames, 35, of Robert.
A woman riding a bike Monday night on U.S. 190 in Tangipahoa Parish was struck by a vehicle and killed, according to State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday. Investigators said the cyclist was westbound on the U.S. 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge, wearing dark clothing and riding a bicycle not equipped with lights or rear-facing reflectors.
A Ford Escape driven by Kateria Edmon, 24, of Hammond, was also westbound on the bridge, and her vehicle crashed into the rear of the bicycle, police said. The cyclist was ejected from her bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.
Edmon is not suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash, police said. Blood samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
