State Police are investigating a single-car accident Saturday in Livingston Parish that killed a man who was not wearing a seat belt, according to a news release.
State Police identified the victim as Louis C. Smith III, 36, of Walker, the release says.
The accident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on La. 1019, which is east of La. 1022, when Smith was driving through a curve and lost control of his car, the release says. The car ran off the road, went through a ditch, struck a culvert and overturned, the news release says. The car came to rest on its roof after it hit a tree, according to the release.
Troopers suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and have submitted a sample of Smith’s blood to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis, the release says.
