Two Springfield men have been arrested for allegedly beating and robbing an elderly ice vendor near Tickfaw State Park, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
Cody Powell, 18, and Glenn Castle, 23, both of 23238 Barnum Road, were arrested Monday after deputies responding to a robbery call and found the 74-year-old proprietor of an ice store near the entry to the state park beaten and robbed of $120 and several bags of ice, Chief Criminal Deputy Jason Ard said in a news release.
The two men had punched the victim in the head and arm, but he was able to describe the vehicle in which the two men fled, Ard said.
Detectives located the vehicle and found Powell and Castle hiding in a closet in the residence, Ard said.
Detectives also found illegal prescription drugs and $35 of the stolen money, Ard said.
Both men were booked on counts of second-degree robbery.
Powell’s bail was set at $35,000, Ard said.
Castle additionally was booked on a count of possession of prescription drugs and his bail was set at $45,000, according to the release.
