A 25-year-old Foley, Alabama, motorist died after his Chevrolet Tahoe ran off U.S. 51 south of Ponchatoula and landed upside down in a canal, State Police said.

Troopers were alerted shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday about the partially submerged vehicle, Trooper First Class Dustin Dwight said in a news release.

On retrieving the vehicle from the water, they discovered the remains of the driver, Ryan Keith Guidroz, within the vehicle.

Crash scene investigators were able to determine Guidroz was traveling southbound on U.S. 51 and for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, overturned and became partially submerged upside down, Dwight said.

Guidroz was not restrained at the time of the crash. Blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
