A Wednesday afternoon shooting in Independence has left one man in critical condition and Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies on the hunt for the gunman and his accomplice.

Authorities were called about 4 p.m. to Blackcat Road, where they found a 25-year-old man who had been shot, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Investigators believe the victim, whose identity has not been released, had been standing outside a residence when a passenger got out of a green Expedition and approached him.

After a few words were spoken, the passenger pulled out a pistol and fired one time at the victim before fleeing, the release says.

The shooter is described as a black male approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with dreadlocks. The driver of the Expedition is described as a bald, light-skinned black male.

The victim is in critical but stable condition, the Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday morning.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.
