HAMMOND — Hammond Police have arrested a man in the hit-and-run death of a 54-year-old pedestrian Wednesday, a spokesman said Monday.

Kendrick Haynes, 22, 415 Windrush, Apt. 7, was arrested Monday afternoon without incident, said Lt. Vincent Giannobile.

Haynes was booked with felony hit-and-run, Giannobile said.

A Crimestoppers tip led to the arrest, Giannobile said.

Leon Banks, of 112 Alligator Drive, was crossing West Thomas Street on Wednesday just after 9 p.m. when he was hit and killed, Giannobile said.

It was raining at the time and Banks was crossing illegally, Giannobile said.

The incident remains under investigation, Giannobile said.
