LIVINGSTON — Deputies booked two more people on counts of felony theft in connection with food stamp fraud, Perry Rushing of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

That brings the number of people arrested on food stamp fraud in the parish in the past two weeks to 10, said Trey Williams of the Department of Children and Family Services.

The latest arrests were two former parish residents — Cassie Evans, 40, and Gary Tribble, 42. They were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center after deputies returned them to Louisiana from Jacksonville, Ill., Rushing said.

The couple remained in the detention center late Tuesday under $10,000 bond on the theft counts, officials confirmed.

Evans failed to report the father of her children, Tribble, as a household member in order to obtain $9,978 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, commonly known as food stamps, between 2007 and 2010, officials said.

Had Tribble’s income been added to the household, it would have made a difference in the amount of SNAP benefits the family obtained from 2007 to 2010.

Tribble was arrested because he provided falsified verification in an effort to assist Evans in obtaining ineligible benefits, a DCFS news release said.

The 10 parish people arrested stole more than $66,000 in SNAP funds, the DCFS said.

Williams said DCFS’ Fraud and Recovery Unit, which investigated these cases, is not targeting the parish, but was acting on information provided by the parish DCFS office.

He declined to say whether more cases are under investigation in Livingston, but said such investigations are ongoing across the state.

Once DCFS completes its investigation, it submits the information to local law enforcement, Williams said.

DCFS used several legal avenues in 2010 to recover more than $2.8 million in ineligible benefits, he said.

Last week, DCFS announced eight similar parish arrests:

e_SBlt Holly Soileau, of Walker, on felony theft of $20,146.

e_SBlt Shanea Jones-Norris and Bradley Norris, of Denham Springs, felony theft, $11,870.

e_SBlt Rebecca Coats and Melissa Colloway, of Denham Springs, felony theft, $9,152.

• Kellie and Joseph Germany, of Walker, felony theft, $4,669.
