A Greenwell Springs man was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday morning in Livingston Parish, police said.

A news release from the State Police gave this account:

Jason Taylor, 46, was wearing dark clothing and walking in the middle of the southbound lane of La. 16 south of Lockhart Road in Livingston Parish some time before 4 a.m.

Larry Myrick, 62, of Clinton was traveling southbound on La. 16 in a 2013 Dodge Ram. Myrick steered to the left but was unable to avoid striking Taylor, who was hit by the front right side of Myrick’s vehicle.

Taylor sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Myrick was properly restrained and was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, police said, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both Taylor and Myrick for analysis.
