Registration for the 2011 - 2012 4-H Shooting Sports Program will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bass Pro Shops in Denham Springs, 175 Bass Pro Blvd.

The Shooting Sports Program, sponsored by the Livingston 4-H Outdoor Sports Association, is open to all Livingston Parish 4-H Club members regardless of whether they are members of their school's 4-H Club, home-schooled, or restricted by their school to the number of clubs they can participate in at school, organizers said. Outdoor shooting activities are at least once a month on Saturday mornings.

Students who participate in the program will learn the proper way to shoot archery, BB guns, rifles and shotguns, organizers said. Participants will learn gun and hunting safety, and will have the opportunity to compete in district, regional and state competitions.

Robert Wendt, president of the Livingston 4-H Outdoors Sports Association, said that 4-H members can participate every year in the program.

Participants age 10 and older can receive their Hunter Education Card.

Volunteer training

Women Outreaching Women will host its semi-annual domestic violence training program for students, volunteers and community leaders interested in learning about domestic violence and becoming part of the solution.

The training will begin 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at 26876 4-H Club Road, Denham Springs.

A 20-hour course is offered for individuals interested in nondirect services, and a 40-hour course is offered for individuals interested in working directly with clients, WOW officials said. The cost is $20 for materials.

Women Outreaching Women is a domestic violence program based in Denham Springs, which offers support groups, education and sheltering for survivors fleeing domestic violence.

District vice president

Mayors from five area parishes have elected Walker Mayor Bobby Font district vice president of the Louisiana Municipal Association. The LMA represents the interests of cities, towns and villages throughout the state.

Font's district includes Livingston, Tangipahoa, St. Helena, St. Tammany and Washington parishes.

Pet adoptions

The Walker Animal Shelter's will hold a Pet Adoption Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at Starbucks Coffee, 31669 La. 16, Denham Springs.
