A Ponchatoula woman was arrested after shooting her boyfriend in the stomach with an assault rifle, authorities said Wednesday.

Winter Flowers, 32, and her boyfriend, Monroe Meyers, 38, were arguing at their home late Tuesday afternoon, when Meyers allegedly threatened Flowers with the rifle, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.

After a brief struggle, Meyers put the gun down on the bed and Flowers picked it up, the woman told investigators.

Flowers alleges that Meyers then rushed toward her and grabbed for the gun, frightening her and causing her to shoot him, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in the release.

Meyers remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, Panepinto said.

Flowers was booked on counts of second-degree aggravated battery, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of Schedules II and IV drugs and possession of a firearm while in possession of controlled dangerous substances.
